Journal – Thinking Mathematically

Jim Tanton and Gary Davis are working on setting up an online journal – Thinking Mathematically – to showcase the mathematical investigations and research of school students and undergraduates.

The journal will feature work by students, including speculative work as well as completed investigations and research, interesting problems, teacher articles on stimulating investigations and research in mathematics classrooms, book reviews, and more.

The journal will be built on Open Journal Systems management software, and Jim and Gary are currently working on integrating that system with a WordPress content management system as front end – using the journal Health and Human Rights as a model.

Professional Development standards

Cath Pearn and Gary Davis are working on a framework for international standards for Professional Development for mathematics teaching.

Outstanding professional development relies on building relationships, based on deep subject and pedagogical knowledge and, so far as it is possible, that professional development should be based on evidence and research.

Cath and Gary are in the process of setting up an international network of outstanding mathematics teacher educators, to assist in establishing norms and expectations for excellent mathematics teacher professional development.
